Flyers can't get off the ground    against Panthers

Brett Beckett scored the first goal 46 seconds into the Empire junior C hockey game as the Port Hope Panthers went on to defeat the Frontenac Flyers 10-1 at the Jack Burger Sports Complex on Saturday night.

Port Hope (21-10-4) moved into second place, though quite possibly temporarily, by handing the winless Flyers their 34th straight defeat. Amherstview (22-9-1) was scheduled to play Frontenac last night with a chance to jump back into second place.

Both Frontenac goalies, Jacob Hartman and Cody Lee, saw action against the Panthers and both made over 40 saves. Port Hope was credited with a shots-advantage of 103 to 15.

Logan Arsenault and Kevin Curridor also scored for the Panthers in the first period.

Port Hope especially controlled the offence in the second by scoring five goals as they outshot the Flyers 40-4. Josh Morin, with two, Nick Camilleri, Jesse Sheppard and Adam Vandertoorn tallied those goals.

Curridor, with his second, and Julian Clayton scored in the third. Curridor and Morin each had two goals and an assist. Derek Walsh assisted on four of the goals. Jory Fuller was in net.

Frontenac's goal came with less than five minutes remaining and Port Hope already leading 10-0. The Flyers had just 11 skaters, compared to 17 for Port Hope.

Saturday's game was the first of five straight at home for the Panthers. They'll host the Picton Pirates this Saturday. Game time is 6:30 p.m. at the Jack Burger Sports Complex
